Get out of Excel

You’ve pushed Excel as far as it goes. Maybe it’s time to take the next step and get out of Excel?

Complicated Excel screen

Excel is a great tool. Truly. But there comes a point where it hits its limits — and it’s you and your team who pay the price, in wasted time, frustration, and sometimes mistakes.

If you recognise any of these situations, you may have reached that point:

  • 📋 Your file has become so complex that only you know how it works
  • 🔗 Sharing between colleagues causes version conflicts and overwritten data
  • 🖨️ The layout falls apart the moment you print it or switch screens
  • ⚙️ Your macros work… until the day they don’t, and nobody knows why
  • 📎 You’ve tried connecting Excel to Outlook, Word or other tools — and lost hours for a disappointing result
  • 📈 Your business has grown, but Excel hasn’t grown with it

What a bespoke web application changes

A web application doesn’t have to be complex or intimidating. It’s simply a tool built for you, accessible from a browser, that does exactly what you need — and nothing superfluous.

A bespoke, user-friendly application

In practice, that means:

  • A clear interface, designed around your work and your habits
  • Several users working at the same time, with no risk of overwriting each other’s data
  • Clean exports in PDF or Word, in the format you want
  • Reliable automations, that don’t break at the slightest change
  • Access from any device, with nothing to install

And above all: you don’t need to know what a “database” or a “server” is to use your tool day to day.

They took the leap — and they don’t regret it

TDR application

TDR — Building expert appraisal firm

The firm used Excel to produce its expert appraisal reports, with embedded rich-text fields. Excel’s limits made the layout hard to control, and every report required tedious adjustments.

Today, they have a bespoke web application: the expert writes up reports on an iPad, including offline and on site, with a signature directly on screen. The assistant handles the administrative follow-up from the office. Final reports are exported to PDF and Word in a few clicks.

Tennis Stats application

Tennis Stats App

Two tennis enthusiasts wanted to automate statistics calculations from match and player data, spread across several Excel sheets. The project started simply, and grew into a full Node.js web application, with multi-criteria filters, player comparison, match import from Excel files…

Three development phases later, the tool keeps evolving with their needs.

Frequently asked questions

Will it be complicated to use? No. The interface is designed to match your habits, not those of an IT professional. If you know how to use Excel, you’ll know how to use your web app.

Where is my data, and is it secure? Your data stays yours. Depending on your preference, the application can be hosted on a dedicated server or integrated with your existing tools (Dropbox, for example).

I don’t have a server or hosting — is that a problem? Not at all, I take care of it if needed, and it’s included in the discussion at quote time.

What if my needs change after delivery? That’s expected. I stay available for future improvements and maintenance — it’s actually how my current collaborations work.
